The QFB, in existence since 1926, is a non-profit organization operating in collaboration
with the Lethbridge-Layton - Mackay Rehabilitation Centre. Membership is open to blind
and visually impaired persons residing in Quebec.
The QFB promotes education to its members by organizing info nights and by offering
financial assistance for post-secondary education. Bursaries are awarded to successful
applicants who are either members and/or children of members who are visually
impaired or blind.
The QFB organizes monthly outings to various places. These activities are usually on
Saturdays. Some examples of our outings are sugaring off in March and apple picking in
September. We also organize an annual Christmas dinner which is usually held in
Layton Hall at the Lethbridge-Layton - Mackay Rehabilitation Centre.
The QFB holds monthly meetings, and organizes events such as information nights.
The info nights are usually held every third Wednesday of the month except for the
months of June, July and August.
The QFB also runs the Cheerio Club which is also known as the bingo club. The bingo
days are on Thursdays from 1PM to 3PM in Layton hall at the Lethbridge-Layton -
Mackay Rehabilitation Centre.
There is a minimal cover charge for this event.
Membership is also open to associate Members - who are sighted people interested and
willing to assist in the work of the Federation as well as assist blind or visually impaired
members when assistance is needed.
Membership fees are very minimal and are due in January of each year.
The bursary packages are usually distributed by mid-March of each year, and bursaries
are presented to the recipients at the opening dinner held in September of each year.
